Sound Not Working After Installing Snow Leopard

nothing worked.... However this problem does not exist on my mother's iMac after performing the exact same upgrade procedure. rebooted and bam... It plays the startup sound, trash sound, the "error" or "cannot complete" sound, and the sound when you remove an item from the dock; for some reason though, it will not http://support.apple.com/kb/DL14292. I did all the obvious things like zapping PRAM and resetting PMU and SMC crap, that stuff doesn't really help. I bot used headphones and updated before sound stopped working. I recently bought Snow Leopard for my late 2007 model 13" Macbook (the old white one).

However, in Macintosh HD / Library / Preferences I have no Audio folder! You may have trouble logging on after a restart, if this happens... Sounds working perfectly now, there was obviously a glitch in the headphone socket that prevented the functioning of the output device.

System preferences had been changed from headphone/speakers to Sound tap recorder as default.

When i reboot i can hear the chime. After posting that, I noticed a red light coming out of my headphone jack. Now, I wanted to upgrade to 10.6.3 and after that I have no sound. And to humour you, I have just again done so I'm double-checking the few things that I haven't double-checked.
