The sound of my Windows XP Dell laptop stopped working I need help fixing How to Download Sound driver to Windows XP? it auto detects the realtek hi-definatin audio. Another thing that could be valid is that the audio codecs somehow were removed. If you do not have the drivers the easiest method is to use a driver update tool. I've also uninstalled the realtek driver then rebooted and let XP relocate it, still made no difference. You probably need to download the proper sounde device for your hardware.
